Reiki

Reiki is often defined as a Japanese technique for relaxation and stress reduction that also encourages self-healing. The idea of Reiki is that there is an invisible "life force energy" flowing through us. This life force energy is what keeps us alive (Ki energy). If a person’s "life force energy" is low, then we are more likely to feel highly emotional, physical disrupted, vulnerable or sick.

If a person’s “life force energy” is high than the result is that we feel energized with a happy and healthy outlook on life.  Our body and our aura will feel well balanced.  Reiki practitioners can not make health claims that Reiki can heal as the modality has not been certified by the TGA.  Although globally there are millions of stories from people claiming to be healed with Reiki and it is used in hospitals around the world as a complementary therapy.

Reiki energy heals the body, mind and spirit while negative energy throughout the entire body is dissipated.  A person’s vibration and frequency is increased with every Reiki healing they receive. Areas which were affected by negative Ki energy will be charged with positive healthy energy.

It is important to note that Reiki can never harm. The healing energy is guided by the universes divine force. It will always know where to go and what it is needed for.  Each person, animal or living creature holds Ki energy.

Reiki can be sent to many people at once and experienced Reiki practitioners have been known to send strong Reiki energy to the other side of the world when needed. As the person giving the Reiki is not controlling the energy there is no risk that the practitioner will absorb the illness or karma of the energy receiver.

Anyone who uses Reiki energy is never depleted of their own Ki energy. Reiki is a channeled healing and the practitioner will receive a healing whilst giving a healing. Therefore with every healing a practitioner should feel their own energy has been increased and a feeling of peace and happiness should be present.

Why Reiki

Reiki is received through a Reiki attunement given from a Reiki master. Everyone who receives an attunement will be able to give a Reiki healing. It is possible that some people who have never been attuned to Reiki can naturally channel healing energy however, if a healer has not received an attunement it is most likely that they are not using Reiki energy but in fact are channeling some other ki energy to heal.  All healers use some sort of Ki energy to heal. People who already do healing work consistently report an increase in the strength of their healings after being attuned.

How Does Reiki Work

To understand how Reiki works it's important to learn how Ki energy flows.  This energy flows within the physical body through our chakras, meridians and our auras.  Ki energy will flow through our physical body helping each organ integrate and sustain life force energy which keeps us alive.

Ki energy is responsive to emotions.  Thoughts have power and if we are consciously or unconsciously accepting and believing negative thoughts and feeling than our Ki energy is disturbed. These thoughts will have negative effects on our energy causing disruptions to the flow of Ki.  Therefore, where the emotion goes the body and spirit will follow.

Reiki works by clearing blockages and removing negative energy from the body, aura and meridians. By clearing negative energy blocks.  Reiki allows energy to flow to all systems of the body and repair as it flows creating a positive energy system. It is said that Reiki is channeled through the crown of the healer and into the heart area and then along the arms and into the hands, but Reiki can be given through touch or by opening up the whole body and allowing the energy to flow through every part of the healer.

Reiki should never feel like you are straining to heal. It is enough to just intend for the healing energy to flow, and Reiki will be given. This is also the case for distant healings. As Reiki is being channeled from the divine the amount of energy available to use is infinite.  Therefore, there is never a concern that the energy does not know how much to send or when to send it.

As a healer the best thing you can do is be clear of thought and intent and just let the energy flow. Do not try to control the energy or make it do what you want within the healing as it will go where it is needed most.

Reiki can never drain the healer from their own ki energy after they have given a healing. If anything, a healer will feel energized. It is also important to note that the healer can never absorb any of the persons karma or negative energy as it is being removed.

Believe that you can heal with nothing to fear and this will become your reality.

Things you should know about Reiki

As the Reiki energy does not belong to the healer it does not deplete the natural energy found in the healer. A healer should always feel better after a healing because the healing energy is flowing through you as it is transmitted to the person you are healing. If done correctly energy always flows through the healer to patient and never the other way around.

Therefore, you can never catch anything from the person you are treating, nor can you catch anything from the healer.  They are just a conduit to you receiving the energy.  The only way you will feel depleted of your own energy or unwell after a healing session is if you try to control the energy and create your own reality. Let the divine energy just flow and nothing will block its path.

Reiki History

The true history of Reiki was falsely documented for a long time.  It is very important to understand that although Reiki was re-discovered in the mid 1800’s this does not mean that the energy was first used in this period. The Reiki energy is ancient and was lost for many centuries before being rediscovered when the world was open to receiving it again.

Similar healing techniques are still used by indigenous cultures from around the world. Australian aboriginals, Pacific Islanders, New Zealand Maori's, American Indians and Indian cultures harness and heal using ki energy still today.

The Five Reiki Precepts (Gokai)

The Reiki precepts are daily affirmations used to encourage personal growth. Even if you do not practice Reiki personally you can adopt the Reiki daily healing precepts (affirmations) in your life which will help bring the healing energy to you.

Below is the traditional five Reiki Precepts in Japanese.

Just for today (Kyo dake wa)
Do not get angry (Okoru na)

Just for today (Kyo dake wa)
Do not worry (Shinpai su na)

Just for today (Kyo dake wa)
Be grateful (Kansha shite)

Just for today (Kyo dake wa)

Work diligently (Gyo wo hage me)

Just for today (Kyo dake wa)
Be kind to others (Hito ni shinsetsu ni)

The traditional way to practice these precepts is to sit in gassho which is a meditative position every morning and evenings and repeat these words out loud until you feel them in your heart.

Here are some possible ways to adapt these precepts into your everyday life.

1. Do not get angry: Think about bringing no harm in thought, word, or deed to any living creature. Particularly become aware of any living beings in your world whom you ignore (people, animals, even plants), and cultivate a sense of care and reverence for them too.

2. Do not worry: For one week try to minimize the amount you consume. Driving less, spending less, letting each physical act be one of caring and respectful. Then for one week act on every single thought of generosity that arises spontaneously in your heart. Let every worry and thought be contemplated and then pass through you to be released.

3. Be grateful: For one week do not gossip (positively or negatively) or speak about anyone you know who is not present with you. Be grateful for all that happens during the week whether it is positive or negative feel grateful.

4. Work diligently: For one week devote yourself to working consistently with honest intent. Devote yourself to being diligent and humble in your work. How does it feel to do this? Think about how you feel and accept these feelings good or bad.

5. Be kind to others: For one week use kind words to people that pass you in your life. Regardless of the situation be kind and use kind words. How does it feel to be kind in all circumstances? What have you observed from doing this?

Reiki can be used for multiple reasons. Some results from having Reiki done are below:

Less Stress

How is it studied?

Reiki is studied as 3 levels.

Level 1 is where you learn about channeling the universal healing energy and how to give a Reiki healing. As Reiki is a hands on healing you learn where to position your hands for yourself and others. Reiki level one is all about healing you.

Level 2 is all about learning to heal others in person and via distance healing. Here you learn how to use the Reiki symbols for healing.

Level 3 or master level focuses learning how to pass on the Reiki healing energy to others so they can become Reiki healers. Here you learn more power symbols and delve deeper into the Reiki healing practice. Level 3 is usually only passed on to students who practice Reiki regularly and have had at least six months of experience.
