Gemstone care guide

Any stones with a hardness of less than 6 is considered porous and should not be submerged in water as the water can damage them.  

Lepidolite, pearl, selenite, amber, chrysocolla, copper, gold, gypsum, Halite (Rock Salt) Silver, Angelite, Azurite, Coral, Jet, Malachite, Calcite, Celestite, Cerussite, Fluorite, Ammolite, Larimar, Charoite, Rhodocrosite, Cats eye, Lapis Lazuli, Hematite, Obsidian, Opal, Rhodonite, Sodalite, Turquoise, Apatite, Apophyllite, Chrome/Star Diopside and Hematite all have a hardness of less than 6.      

Any stone that has a metallic content will also react in water and could also rust.   These gems contain elemental metals such as copper, cobalt, iron, lead, nickel, platinum, titanium and zinc.  Wetting these stones can also make them toxic to touch.  

Hematite, Chalcoprite, pyrite, platinum, copper, Galena, gold, magnetite, Bornite, peridot, Dravite, Manganese, Sulfur, gypsum, Zeolite and zinc can all be affected by water exposure.  

The Purethica jewellery is either triple quoted in 18 carat gold or sterling silver. This makes it more durable than the standard double coating of jewellery which can tarnish easily.  Being triple coated in 18ct gold means that there is less of a chance of an allergic reaction.  Purethica jewellery can be worn everyday but it should be noted that stones with a hardest of less than 6 can be brittle and should be worn with care.     

The easiest way to clear built up energy from stones is by smudging.  Smudging products can be found in the shop section of this website.  Instructions on smudging are also found on these products.

The crystals sold by Purethica as cleaned both physically and energetically before being sold to you.  These crystals over time may change colour with long term sun exposure so storing them away from direct sunlight or when not wearing the jewellery is essential.
